About Me
Since 1988, soprano Lee Hoffman has worked with college and community singers to develop and express themselves skillfully, freely, and confidently. Valued for her expertise as a facilitator of developmental process, Lee has a special ability to deeply listen, and to connect students with their own insight and wisdom. She believes that the teacher-student relationship provides a core foundation for developing a fuller and freer sense of self. Lee has taught voice at several universities including Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio; University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio; Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky; Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio; University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music; Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Me as a Teacher
In addition to her music degrees, Lee's Master of Science in Education, Counseling degree is progressively relevant in the student-centered field of applied teaching. For example, she presented a peer-reviewed paper poster at the 2012 National Association of Teachers of Singing National Conference entitled “The Power of Me and You: Maximizing the Benefits of the Teacher-Student Relationship." Lee views each individual student as an equal collaborator in their own learning and development. Mastery of a musical instrument and mastery of personhood are happening during every step of the applied music journey.
My Teaching Style
For me, teaching is a calling that requires complete commitment to student well-being, mutual learning, and excellence. Teaching voice allows me to meet fellow human beings where they are, find out where they want to go, help them gain access to as many options as possible, and accompany them on their journey. At its best, it is a mutually transformative act to share in that process. I derive wholehearted joy in my work with students as we develop the bond of trust necessary for learning, and as they build confidence and achieve academic, artistic, and personal success. I love working with students of varying backgrounds, abilities, needs, and goals. And I am effective in teaching a wide range of vocal repertoire styles and languages.

Transformative and Holistic

I am beyond lucky to be a student of Lee Hoffman because her focus on the singer as a human being is transformative. I LOVE that her teaching is holistic. There's a combination of technical, soulful, personal development, and musicality instead of only focusing ONLY on 'fixing' students. It is so magical that by just being transparent, being oneself and 'congruent' as a teacher, the student's sense of self-worth and pride increases. I cannot wait to apply this in my own teaching! All and all, working with Ms. Hoffman was one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences of my life. Her meticulousness and thoroughness with my voice and with me, as an individual, assisted me in gaining the skills and poise necessary to be a successful vocalist. Soprano
Encouragement and Positivity

Today I had the pleasure of speaking to my Awesome voice teacher from Central State University - Lee Hoffman!!!! She introduced me to my true Soprano voice, while I was hiding trying to be an Alto lol.... In undergrad, we take our voice lessons for granted. It's not until we graduate that we realize just how good/convenient we had it. It was required for our teachers to make us great singers, now I'm seeking for someone as great as she! Thank you for your encouragement and positivity today. I miss that most about you! Voice - soprano
Technical Knowledge, Holistic, and Humanist

Lee Hoffman is the most impactful music teacher I've ever worked with. My post undergraduate journey was filled with indecision and self doubt. However, thanks to Lee's specific technical knowledge explained in a holistic, humanist manner, she not only helped me develop a vocal skillset enough to audition for graduate school, but came away with the confidence to be a smarter, more thoughtful musician and person. Her ability to understand a person's core of being and adapt her teaching methods to them is an invaluable experience. Baritone
Kind and Patient

I tend to get really shy when performing for a grade or feedback. I am still working through some past trauma from a previous voice teacher who did almost nothing but put me down. But Lee is kind and patient. One of the main things that Lee has helped me with besides boosting my confidence is helping me be more focused, to visualize preparing the breath, vowel, tone.... With everything that I have learned from Lee over these last three semesters, I have gotten my best reviews for my final jury ever! If you are looking for a kind, patient, caring voice teacher, then I highly recommend Lee!
