My Introduction
About Me
Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up playing the piano, and during my undergraduate years, I discovered a deep passion for voice—how it moves, expresses, and connects people. That passion led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Voice Pedagogy at Carthage College, one of the few schools in the U.S. that focuses on training Commercial Contemporary Music (CCM) artists. After serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music at Carthage, I continued my musical and academic journey at the University of Arizona, where I am now pursuing my Ph.D. and researching how voice science and education come together to help singers grow with confidence and awareness.
Me as a Teacher
With more than 20 years of teaching experience, I’ve had the joy of guiding students of all ages and levels—both in private lessons and group settings. My specialty is teaching voice in Musical Theatre and Contemporary Commercial Music styles such as jazz, R&B, pop, and country. I am also experienced in teaching beginner and intermediate piano as well as music theory. My teaching philosophy is rooted in motor learning and metacognition, which means I focus on helping students build awareness and self-correction skills. I love watching my students become independent, confident musicians who know how to practice smart, improve efficiently, and truly enjoy their own progress.
My Teaching Style
In stead of vague or purely “feeling-based” vocal methods. I use a scientific, body-aware approach that helps you understand what’s really happening when you sing—so you can find a healthy, sustainable voice that lasts a lifetime. You’ll learn to control the muscles and sensations that matter, making your sound strong, flexible, and authentic. For those who perform, I also bring in acting techniques to help you connect emotionally and step into your character with ease. My goal is to help you shine on stage and captivate your audience—naturally and effortlessly. Let’s explore your voice together and unlock the sound that’s uniquely yours!
